28/12: Nobel Peace Prize...Right.
Okay. This is the first time I've seen someone issued a Nobel Peace prize in anticipation of someone doing well.
President Barack Obama accepted his Nobel Prize last week and i cannot help, but wonder if the Nobel committee is starting to become political. I mean, I understand that a lot of Americans and other countries wanted to see him in office, but really going out of their way to make him look good seems a little unfair to others.
They awarded the prize to him "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people." That's all well and good, but this was in October of 2009, he has only been president for nine months! What did he do in those nine months that deserved such a prestigious award. The Nobel committee explained "it could be seen as an early vote of confidence intended to build global support for the policies of his young administration." Sounds like politics to me.
Do not get me wrong, I have no problem with President Obama getting the Nobel prize or anyone for that matter. I just concerned when a prestigious award is being used to further a political ideal.
In some ways, the lack of major accomplishment seems to lower the value of the achievement.
